DEMOCRACY DAY?
A people from the people,
But not for the people,
Not by the people.
The laws twisted against the people.

They say, it's June 12_
A season for the seeds of hope to germinate.
Yet we ask: does the soil that nurtures them belong to us,
Or is it borrowed, as it keeps destroying the trees!

We celebrate democracy day,
but who is truly heard,
If power answers only power,
Does the people's voice still grow?
The term was only assumed,
Autocracy just wearing perfume.

Is this democracy we celebrate, or just a name?
While rights are denied and voices buried in silence?
Are our rights truly alive, or already erased?
When opinions and strategies are treated as nothing?.
What freedom is this, when fear walks our streets?
Bandits, kidnappers, and sudden violence everywhere?
Where is safety, when Boko Haram still shadows us?
And innocent lives vanish without justice or trace?.
Can we call it peace, when corruption eats deep?
Into the system meant to protect the people?
Is this leadership for the people, or against them?.
When cries of the suffering are left unheard?
How do we celebrate, when survival is a struggle?
And tell me are we free, or just living in agony?

In this land 'Democracy'
I hear Jungle Drums wailing
The extorted kisses of conundrums
The monotonous malady of death.

Mossed brain dotted in the mouth of rain
bleeding arteries in the sack of rage
gun for me and you, my birthday prize for you.
Despite who chooses, the choice give no choice

The scale tips lowkey where bags sit
While men waits on the empty side
We call it balance, we call it right
But whose weight counts when votes decide?

We hope for a better Nigeria,
We pray for a better tomorrow,
For a peace, unity and justice to reign.
God bless Nigeria.
